Some of the No-profit Organizations working for the poor people education and wellness

1.Mother Terasa Charitable Trust: Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa charitable Trust (MTCT) is a humanitarian development, and social relief NGO striving for the upliftment of the poor, downtrodden and under privileged in the society irrespective of caste creed and religion. It is a secular, apolitical and non-profit organization that came into existence with a mission to serve the poorest of the poor by the inspiration derived from the life and service of Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa. The Trust serves with the sole motto of “Service to Humanity is Service to God”
.

2. Room to Read :John Wood, founder and executive chairman, launched Room to Read after a trek through Nepal where he visited several local schools. He was amazed by the warmth and enthusiasm of the students and teachers, but also saddened by the shocking lack of resources. Driven to help, John quit his senior executive position with Microsoft and built a global team to work with rural villages to build sustainable solutions to their educational challenges.

3. Grameen Foundation :At Grameen Foundation our goal is simple – we want to see poor people, especially the poorest and those living in harder to reach areas, have access to microfinance and technology and as a result of access to these services, move themselves out of poverty. We envision a world where the poor have broken the generational chain of poverty and lead lives of respect, dignity and opportunity. Grameen Foundation, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Washington, DC with an office in Seattle, Washington, was founded in 1997 by friends of Grameen Bank to help microfinance practitioners and spread the Grameen philosophy worldwide. We share the ideas of 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus. Grameen Foundation and Grameen Bank are independent organizations and have no financial or institutional links.

4.Peace and Hope Begin With Education: One Child At A Time:Central Asia Institute is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the mission to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of northern Pakistan and Afghanistan.

5.Help Age India :HelpAge India is secular, not-for-profit organization registered under the Societies' Registration Act of 1860. We were set up in 1978, and since then have been raising resources to protect the rights of India's elderly and provide relief to them through various interventions.

6.Akshaya Patra :The history of our Foundation starts with a story of compassion.

Looking out of a window one day in Mayapur, a village near Calcutta, His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada saw a group of children fighting with street dogs over scraps of food. From this simple, yet heart breaking incident, came the determination that: No one within a ten mile radius of our center should go hungry.

It is his inspiration which helped us to create The Akshaya Patra Foundation as it is today.

We began this initiative with the vision that “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.”

In June 2000, we started our mid-day meal program in Bangalore by feeding 1500 children in 5 schools. At that time there was no State run school meal program in Karnataka. Within a few short weeks we had received hundreds of requests from teachers who expressed the dire need of such a scheme.

This over whelming response was the impetus for the growth of The Akshaya Patra Foundation.

Growth of The Akshaya Patra Foundation

In November 28, 2001 the Supreme Court of India passed an order which mandated that: "Cooked mid-day meal is to be provided in all the government and government-aided primary schools in all the states." Akshaya Patra was called in to give testimonies to the Supreme Court in order to implement the mandate.

By the time the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of School Health and Education) extended its support to this noble cause in 2003, Akshaya Patra was already reaching out to 23,000 underprivileged children through the support of our donors.

With the partnership of the Government of India & various State governments, as well as the generosity of thousands of our supporters, we have grown from a small endeavor to a mammoth force that stretches across the country.

Now we are reaching out to 1.2 million children everyday.

For 10 years, we have been an international charity for children that has worked to transform a vision into a reality.

We will continue to do so…
